Type Locality and Naming

The type section is around Lingyan Temple south of Lüeyang, Shaanxi, and the reference section lies at Yiwagou (gully), about 20 km north of Diebu, Gansu. It was named by Zhao Yazeng and Huang Jiqing in 1931.

Synonym: Lüeyang Fm (with umlaut)


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. At Yiwagou of Diebu, it is dominated by dark-gray medium- to thick-bedded limestone, containing siliceous bands and intercalated with thin-bedded clayey limestone and carbonaceous sandy limestone, 1291 m thick.

Intercalated with brecciform limestone in the Luqu area to the west, with calcareous slate and quartz sandstone going eastward around Kangxian County, and occasionally with bauxite and hematite lenses around Wenxian County. Thickness generally 356−750 m.

Distributed from Henan County of Qinghai in the west, via Luqu, Diebu, Wenxian County and Kangxian County of Gansu, and extending eastward to Lüeyang and Yangxian County of Shaanxi

Fossils

Corals Kueichouphyllum sinense, Dibunophyllum sp., Yuanophyllum cf. kansuense, Arachnolasma sinense, Lithostrotion yaolingense, L. irregulare, Syringopora sp., Aulina sp., etc.; Brachiopods Gigantoproductus edelburgensis, G. giganteus, G. latipriscus, Kansuella kansuensis, Striatifera striata, Echinoconchus elegans, etc. and Fusulinid Eostaffella mixta.
